Rabat – HM King Mohammed VI’s speech to the Parliament on Friday marked a ‘major turning point’ for the Moroccan Sahara issue, said Abdelfattah Naoum, Professor of International Relations at Cadi Ayyad University in Marrakech.
Speaking to MAP, Naoum described the Royal speech at the opening of the autumn session of parliament as ‘ truly historic ‘, since it provides the key vectors for a better understanding of the Kingdom’s action in support of its national cause, and since it sets out the positive evolution of this issue, moving from the management phase to a dynamic of change, and from a reactive approach to a logic of taking the initiative.
He added that Morocco’s achievements in this respect are growing stronger by the day, as witnessed by France’s recent position clearly supporting the Kingdom’s sovereignty over its Sahara.
The academic stressed that HM the King had emphasized the importance of the involvement of all Moroccans, including the inhabitants of the southern provinces, as a guarantee of t
hese successive victories, calling for the intensification of efforts by the driving forces of society to win further recognition for the Moroccanness of the Sahara.
