President Abdel Fattah El Sisi affirmed Friday that Libya can restore its sovereignty, unity and desired stability only by dealing seriously with the main problem: the foreign forces, mercenaries and fighters on its soil.
The provisions of UNSC Resolutions No. 2570 and 2571, the international and regional-agreed outputs of the Berlin II Conference, and the decisions of the
Arab League, the African Union, and Libya’s neighbouring countries have stressed the necessity of the withdrawal of all foreign forces, mercenaries and fighters without exception, discrimination or further procrastination, Sisi told the Paris International Conference on Libya.
Restoring permanent stability, achieving social peace, and preserving the identity and national fabric in Libya has requirements that cannot be overcome, represented in the completion of comprehensive national reconciliation among all the Libyan people, and paying attention to the equitable distribution of wealth to achieve comprehensive development in all regions of Libya without exception, to advance the economy and ensure optimal utilization of Libya’s resources to meet the aspirations of its people, he added.
The situation in Libya is getting better, Sisi said.
He expressed aspiration for the success of the long-awaited Libyan elections to help Libya restore its active Arab and regional role.
Sisi praised the measures taken by the Libyan Presidency Council and the National Unity Government to prepare for the elections, and the efforts of the Libyan House of Representatives and its coordination with the Libyan High Electoral Commission, which is making great efforts to hold the elections on time.
Egypt’s efforts, spurred on by its multiple ties with Libya, focused on finding common ground between the Libyan actors to launch a national dialogue that addresses the political, economic and security roots of the crisis, in coordination with brotherly and friendly countries and the United Nations, he added.
The president reiterated that Egypt is willing to support the Libyan authorities to implement the 5+5 Joint Military Commission’s plan in this regard, as well as uniting Libyan institutions and building capacities so that Libyans could preserve their wealth and be able to determine their fate.
He called on all actors inside and outside Libya to cease imposing the fait accompli policy, in addition to stopping to provide safe havens or any form of support for terrorist and extremist groups or transferring their members from one country to another, in order to bring Libya out of its crisis and alleviate the suffering of its people.
