Rabat – “Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced materials for green energy and a sustainable environment’ is the theme of an international workshop which kicked off Tuesday in Rabat, on the initiative of the College of Physics and Chemistry of the Hassan II Academy of Sciences and Technology.
This two-day scientific event brings together international experts and Moroccan researchers to explore the latest technological innovations and their applications in the fields of green energy and environment.
The workshop aims to explore materials innovations, fostered by the use of AI, to address environmental and energy challenges, the organizers said, noting that ‘in a global context increasingly aware of environmental issues and the need for sustainable energy solutions, AI and advanced materials are emerging as essential tools’.
One of the main objectives of this scientific event is to ‘create synergies between Moroccan and foreign researchers”. By providing a platform for sharing recent research results and
experiences through presentations and discussion sessions, the workshop aims to facilitate the development of collaborative projects.
Speaking at the event, Permanent Secretary of the Hassan II Academy of Science and Technology, Omar Fassi Fihri, noted that AI can play a crucial role in modeling advanced materials, boosting industrial capabilities and the future of green energy. According to him, research and teaching are inseparable and must feed off each other to remain relevant and productive.
Fassi Fihri also emphasized the fundamental tasks of the teacher-researcher, namely transmitting knowledge, creating knowledge through research works and assessing students. These responsibilities are essential for training the country’s executives and maintaining a sustainable development, he added.
For his part, the Dean of the Faculty of Sciences in Rabat, Mohamed Regragui, emphasized the importance of the theme chosen for this meeting, pointing out that this workshop enables students and doctoral students to l
earn about global scientific research and establish international cooperation.
Regragui emphasized that international collaboration is essential to integrate the latest technological and scientific advances into research and training programs, thus opening up new opportunities for young researchers and doctoral students.
For his part, the National Center for Scientific and Technical Research’s representative (CNRST), Redouane Assad, highlighted the Khawarizmi program, launched in 2019 to promote applied AI research, pointing out that this initiative supports innovative projects in various sectors, including health, agriculture, industry and education.
CNRST also participates in international cooperation programs, such as the collaboration program with the Québec Research Funds (FRQ), which funds projects integrating AI technologies to address major societal challenges, he added.
For her part, Lalla Btissam Drissi, professor at the Faculty of Sciences in Rabat and resident member of the Hassan II Academy o
f Sciences and Technology, emphasized the topicality of the issues addressed, combining AI and advanced materials, which are crucial for green energy and environmental sustainability in Morocco.
In this respect, she expressed her satisfaction to see international experts share their latest innovations, enabling Morocco to become more involved in these cutting-edge fields.
Drissi also pointed out that this workshop is a first in Morocco, bringing together AI and advanced materials, which testifies to the country’s commitment to positioning itself at the forefront of cutting-edge technologies.
The workshop brings together experts from a dozen countries, including the USA, Canada, Poland, Greece, Italy, France, the United Arab Emirates and Sweden, in addition to researchers from Moroccan universities, making this event a platform for exchange and discussion on practical applications of AI and advanced materials.
