RAMALLAH: The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said the Israeli occupation detained 640 Palestinian children from the occupied West Bank, including those who were subjected to abuse, since the outbreak of its aggression on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023.

PPS in a statement said that since the start of the Israeli genocide, at least 640 detentions have been recorded among children. This total includes those who were later released by the occupation authorities and those who remain in Israeli custody.

The statement said that children in the occupation prisons, numbering currently about 250 children, are subjected to all kinds of reprisals, including abuse, torture and medical crimes.

PPS reported the presence of a group of children in Megiddo Prison in northern Israel who were detained from the Gaza Strip. No further information regarding Gaza detainees was provided.

According to PPS, Israeli authorities yesterday; on the first day of the Eid al-Adha Muslim holiday, detained a seven-year-old child, w
ho was identified as Baha Kazem Haj Mohammed, from the town of al-Mughayyir east of Ramallah, and released him hours later.

According to the child’s family, Baha was detained while he was present at the town center, along with other children and youths who were also rounded up. PPS added that Baha was beaten on his hands after his detention. The occupation forces deliberately left the seven-year-old boy far from his home following his release hours later.
