RAMALLAH: The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) held the Israeli occupation authorities fully responsible for the life of Moazas Ebayat, a Palestinian detainee from Bethlehem, who was re-detained at dawn today, just three months after his release.
In a statement, PPS reported that 37-year-old Moaz Ebayat is suffering from severe and alarming health conditions as a result of the torture he endured during his nine-month administrative detention.
Ebayat was previously released from Naqab prison; one of the most notorious prisons known for its widespread torture and abuse.
According to Ebayat’s family, the occupation forces raided his home at 2:00 a.m. in late October 2023 and brutally assaulted him during his detention.
PPS voiced deep concern for Ebayat’s life, stating that he was subjected to additional torture and severe beatings during his imprisonment.
The Society emphasized that Ebayat’s condition upon his release on July 9, 2024, was a living testament to the suffering he endured during his previo
us detention, including starvation and medical neglect; abuses that were key factors in the killing of Palestinian detainees after October 7, 2023.
PPS confirmed that since his release, Ebayat has been receiving treatment and requires ongoing medical follow-ups.
Ebayat is one of thousands of detainees in occupation prisons facing unprecedented abuses, according to PPS. He has been detained three times and is married with five children.
Ebyat had no prior health issues before his previous detention, PPS confirmed.
PPS reiterated its appeal to international human rights organizations to reclaim their essential role and put an end to the ongoing genocide and the horrific crimes inflicted upon the Palestinian people. This includes detainees in the occupation’s prisons and camps, which have become sites of torture since the onset of the genocidal war.
It stressed that what is being witnessed today represents proven and systematic crimes perpetrated by the occupation over decades, with the only difference bein
g the increased intensity and severity of these offenses,’ PPS reaffirmed.
