Prisoners Authority: Prisoners in Negev Prison Face Difficult Detention and Health Conditions

Ramallah – Ma’an – The Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs and Freed Prisoners reported in its report issued today that the pace of punishments imposed on prisoners is still ongoing, and that the occupation prison administration is adopting a method of revenge against our prisoners by isolating them from the outside world, fighting them with starvation and torturing them, in addition to depriving them of the most basic human requirements.

In this context, the Authority’s lawyer said after his visit to the Negev prison that prisoner Iyad Samhan (48 years old) from the town of Beit Sira/Ramallah, who was sentenced to 30 years in prison, suffers from a widespread outbreak of scabies, as a result of medical negligence and failure to provide him with the necessary treatment, in addition to the absence of personal and general hygiene requirements for the prisoners and the rooms in which they are located.

‘I was given antibiotics three times, but because of the spread of the virus and the long period of time I went w
ithout medication, it became difficult for my body to respond, and the disease spread again in a more ferocious way, as I developed a large boil in certain places on my body, which led to blood clots and severe inflammation, after which I was transferred to the hospital and underwent a cleaning operation, and now my condition is stable,’ Samhan said.

As for prisoner Samih Aliwi (63 years old) from Nablus, who was sentenced to 6 months of administrative detention, he was subjected to abuse and mistreatment by the soldiers during his transfer to prison, despite the sensitivity of his health condition. He underwent several surgeries and part of his intestines was cut as a result of a benign tumor. His treatment was scheduled to be completed, but was stopped due to his arrest. He also lost more than 40 kilograms of his weight, and he cannot even eat a single piece of food.

It is noteworthy that the prisoner spent a total of 10 years in prison at varying periods.

While prisoner Rasem Hamamra (30 years old) from
the town of Husan/Bethlehem, suffers from major dental problems, which were supposed to be treated quickly, but this was stopped under the pretext of the war on the Gaza Strip.

It is noteworthy that Hamamra was arrested on 03/26/2022, and a 30-year prison sentence was issued against him.

While prisoner Othman Shaalan (24 years old) from the city of Bethlehem, who was sentenced to 9 years in prison, complains of allergies that are widespread on his body. He also suffers from an injury in his left leg since his arrest, which causes him severe pain and inflammation. Like other prisoners, he has lost a lot of weight in recent months.

The prisoner Tawfiq Shalabi (28 years old) from Jenin camp, who was sentenced to 52 months in prison, was also visited. He is fine and in good health.
