Ismailia: Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, joined the Suez Canal Authority’s “Day of Excellence” celebration, marking the launch of new maritime services and the signing of several memoranda of understanding. This event followed his inspection of various service projects in Ismailia Governorate.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the celebration saw the attendance of key figures, including Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development, Admiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, and several international representatives. The event featured the announcement of a ship waste removal service, the opening of a floating bentonite factory, and the inauguration of the Suez Canal Academy for Innovation and Excellence.
A significant memorandum of understanding was signed with Spain’s Tehidor Lazaro Group, focusing on fisheries, aquaculture, and related fields. The Prime Minister emphasized the canal’s strategic importance to global trade and economic growth, highlighting its role in reducing transport costs and times.
Dr. Madbouly underscored Egypt’s commitment to developing the canal and addressing regional challenges impacting navigation. He affirmed Egypt’s dedication to maintaining regional security and the canal’s centrality to global trade.
Admiral Osama Rabie expressed gratitude for governmental support and detailed the canal’s recent achievements, including a slight improvement in navigation statistics in early 2025 and plans for further maritime service enhancements. The canal’s performance from 2019 to 2024 was reviewed, showing fluctuations due to geopolitical tensions.
The event also showcased the canal’s efforts toward sustainability, with the launch of a waste collection service in partnership with V Group, aiming to transform the canal into a “green canal” by 2030. Mr. Veron Vassiliadis of V Group highlighted the service’s role in promoting sustainability and cooperation.
Mr. Guy Platten of the International Chamber of Shipping reaffirmed the canal’s global significance and supported Egypt’s vision for producing green fuel, enhancing the canal’s role in sustainable development. The celebration concluded with the opening of a new training center and the addition of maritime units to the canal’s fleet.
