Cairo: Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of Egypt, commenced the weekly press conference following the Cabinet meeting by welcoming attendees and sharing insights from his participation in the World Economic Forum in Davos 2025. He emphasized Egypt’s pivotal role in negotiating a ceasefire in Gaza, achieved in collaboration with Qatar and the United States.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Dr. Madbouly celebrated the global recognition Egypt received for its diplomatic efforts in the region. He stated that, from the moment the ceasefire was implemented, Egypt had been actively sending humanitarian aid to Gaza, including a significant convoy from the ‘Tahya Masr’ Fund. This convoy comprised over 305 trucks carrying more than 4,000 tonnes of aid, highlighting Egypt’s continued support for Gaza’s people.
The Prime Minister reiterated Egypt’s unwavering stance on the Palestinian issue, as articulated by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. Dr. Madbouly underscored Egypt’s commitment to supporting the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Turning to the Davos Forum, Dr. Madbouly highlighted Egypt’s strategic diplomatic engagements. He noted that the Middle East, particularly developments in Gaza and Syria, was a focal point of global discussions. World leaders, including those from Austria and Croatia, expressed keen interest in Egypt’s position on regional issues and lauded its balanced approach amidst global turbulence.
On the economic front, Dr. Madbouly engaged with executives from prominent global companies, discussing potential investments in Egypt. He mentioned companies like ‘Deme’, ‘Siemens’, ‘Yara Clean Ammonia’, and ‘Acciona Energa’, which are exploring opportunities in renewable energy and green hydrogen sectors. Discussions with ‘Volvo’ and ‘Maersk’ focused on expanding automotive manufacturing and shipping operations in Egypt.
Key developments in the energy sector were also highlighted, particularly negotiations with Italian company ‘Eni’ concerning the ‘Zohr’ gas field. Dr. Madbouly shared that preparatory work had begun to increase production capacity, with expectations of enhanced gas exports in the coming years.
In terms of international partnerships, Dr. Madbouly announced a new agreement with Switzerland aimed at boosting trade and investment. He also discussed Egypt’s collaboration with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and positive feedback from the International Monetary Fund regarding Egypt’s economic progress.
Dr. Madbouly concluded by discussing efforts to enhance government-private sector collaboration for economic growth, and the draft law for central business districts aimed at attracting international investments. A new oil discovery in the Gulf of Suez was also announced, promising further advancements in Egypt’s energy sector.
