Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh Wednesday ordered drafting the 2024 state budget law, setting initial ceilings for each ministry or government unit and final ceilings for the governorates, in conjunction with preparing the manning table of public institutions. A circular issued by the Prime Minister’s office stated that all ministries, departments and government units must send their own draft budgets for the years 2024-2026 in detail to the General Budget Department no later than August 1st, with the inclusion of the governorates’ capital projects that were approved by governorate councils. In a letter to ministries and state agencies, the General Budget Department directed adherence to initial budget ceilings, that “should not be exceeded unless the public interest warrants otherwise”, while citing the justifications and expected results and abiding by government directives to curb spending due to difficulties facing the department.
