Presidential advisor decries Jewish supremacist Minister’s remarks on Al-Aqsa

RAMALLAH: President Mahmoud Abbas’ advisor today decried an Israeli Jewish supremacist Minister’s remarks indicating a major change has been instituted to the long-standing status quo over Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

President Mahmoud Abbas’ Advisor for Religious Affairs and Islamic Relations, Mahmoud al-Habbash, decried extremist Israeli Minister Itamar Ben Gvir’s statements, saying that he has prayed at the site and calling for allowing Jewish prayer at the site in an attempt to effect a major change to the status quo on the mosque compound.

Al-Habbash described Ben Gvir’s remarks as persistent aggression on the holy sites in the occupied city of Jerusalem and cautioned that remaining tight-lipped over such an aggressive behavior would further kindle the flame of religious war and portends serious consequences for security and stability in the region and the world.

He reaffirmed that the mosque compound, the third most important Islamic holy site in the world, is exclusively Muslim and that non-
Muslims are not allowed to pray at, interfere in the affairs of the site, or alter the status quo on it.

Meanwhile, the Palestine Liberation Organization’s Jerusalem Affairs Department held the occupation government fully responsible for the serious consequences of such a scheme and remarks.
