Cairo: Egypt President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has emphasized the importance of raising public awareness regarding water conservation, according to Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam. This directive underscores the president’s commitment to prioritizing the country’s water resource management.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Sewilam highlighted Egypt’s significant progress in the water and irrigation sector over the past decade during the 16th session of the Arab Ministerial Water Council in Jordan. The Egyptian state has initiated several large-scale projects, with total investments exceeding 400 billion pounds, primarily aimed at treating agricultural wastewater for use in Sinai and the Western Desert.
The Egyptian government has also focused on rehabilitating water facilities nationwide. These efforts have transitioned Egypt’s water systems from the first to the second generation, which incorporates digitalization to enhance water treatment capabilities. This transition su
pports the cultivation of large desert areas, contributing to the nation’s water and food security.
Egypt’s election as chair of the Executive Bureau of the Arab Ministerial Water Council for 2024-2025 further confirms its leadership and extensive experience in water management. Sewilam expressed pride in Egypt’s role in collaborating with Arab nations during this period.
