NEW YORK: President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas met today with the Prime Minister of Ireland Simon Harris, on the sidelines of his participation in the meetings of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, in New York.
The President praised Ireland’s courageous and principled positions in recognizing the State of Palestine, which confirms its respect for international law and international legitimacy, peace and support for the Palestinian people’s right to freedom and independence.
He also reviewed the latest developments on the Palestinian scene, and the latest developments in the ongoing efforts to stop the aggression , bring in humanitarian, relief and medical aid to the Gaza Strip, shelter the displaced and prevent their displacement, rebuild what the occupation destroyed and withdraw the occupation forces completely and immediately.
The President warned of the danger of the ongoing attacks by the occupation authorities against the Palestinian people in the West Bank, includi
ng East Jerusalem, and the crimes of colonists against our defenseless people, and the continued killings and storming of Palestinian cities, villages, towns and camps, and the continued establishment of colonies.
He reiterated the State of Palestine’s categorical rejection of the displacement of any Palestinian citizen, whether in the Gaza Strip or the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and that the Gaza Strip is an integral part of the Palestinian state.
The President informed the Prime Minister of Ireland of his initiative to go to the Gaza Strip with the Palestinian leadership, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, to stop the ongoing aggression waged against the Palestinian people and to end the immediate presence of the occupation forces in the Gaza Strip.
He also stressed that the State of Palestine has jurisdiction in the Gaza Strip, along with the West Bank, including Jerusalem.
