New York – Ma’an – President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas met today, Monday, with the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, on the sidelines of his participation in the meetings of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, in New York.

During the meeting, the President reviewed the overall developments on the Palestinian scene, in light of the ongoing Israeli occupation aggression against our people, the crimes of genocide and ethnic cleansing it is committing in the Gaza Strip, and its ongoing violations in the West Bank, including Jerusalem.

He called for accelerating investigations into Israeli war crimes during the aggression on the Gaza Strip, the terrorism of settlers in the West Bank, violations against detainees, and other crimes committed by the occupation in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The President said that the absence of punishment means encouraging the Israeli occupation to continue committing its crimes against our people, who have b
een suffering for 76 years from injustice, oppression, apartheid, and ethnic cleansing.

The President stressed the importance of the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice last July on the illegality and illegitimacy of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory, and the need for the international community and the legal organizations affiliated with the United Nations to take action to compel Israel, the occupying power, to implement these decisions, in addition to all the precautionary measures decided by the court, which require the cessation of the Israeli military attack on Palestinian territory.

The President pointed out that the State of Palestine will continue to seek full membership in the United Nations and obtain more recognition of the State of Palestine.
