President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Tuesday 17/10/2023 met with Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mr. Moussa Faki. The meeting was also attended by Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry.
Spokesman for the Presidency, Counselor Ahmad Fahmy, said the President welcomed Mr. Faki’s visit to Cairo to participate in the Retreat of Special Envoys in Africa, to enhance peace and security at the continental level.
The President confirmed that Egypt looks forward to further advancing cooperation and close coordination with the African Commission so as to strengthen joint African action across various areas, notably with a focus on the sectors of economic integration and regional amalgamation; peace and security; institutional reform of the Union as well as cooperation with international partners.
Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mr. Faki, underscored Egypt’s importance and clout in the African continent, expressing his appreciation for Egypt’s efforts to help promote development efforts of its brothers in Africa.
He also lauded Egypt’s commitment to contribute to preserving security and political stability in the continent.
He added that this included hosting the Retreat of Special Envoys in Africa and providing full substantive and logistical support to ensure its success, as it represents a major platform for sharing expertise and exchanging diverse experiences in order to contribute to settling conflicts and maintaining and building peace.
The meeting also tackled developments in various issues on the regional and international arenas, as well as the latest developments in a multitude of conflicts in the region and efforts to reach political settlements for them. Those include primarily the situations in the Sahel and Horn of Africa regions, and the situation in Sudan.
