Cairo: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ronald Lamola, along with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Dr. Badr Abdel-Aatty and South Africa’s Ambassador to Egypt, Joseph Mashimbye.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Mr. Lamola conveyed a message from South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, expressing appreciation for President El-Sisi and eagerness to continue developing relations between Egypt and South Africa. President El-Sisi reciprocated this sentiment, highlighting the historical ties and continuous communication between the two nations.
The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation across various fields, particularly in light of both countries’ membership in BRICS and their significant roles in regional and African matters. Discussions included regional issues and both countries’ efforts to support the Palestinian cause, along with examining strategies to reach a ceasefire a
nd urging the international community to act decisively to reduce regional tensions.
Additionally, the meeting addressed enhancing cooperation among Southern countries as South Africa prepares to assume the G20 presidency. President El-Sisi emphasized the importance of aligning African development priorities with the international agenda and maximizing the benefits of the African Union’s new membership in the G20.
The spokesman noted that discussions also covered African matters, focusing on cooperation through the African Union and boosting security and peace across the continent. Mr. Lamola expressed South Africa’s appreciation for Egypt’s role in supporting nations facing crises regionally and continentally, both politically and humanitarianly. President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to ongoing consultation and coordination with South Africa to advance peace, security, and development in Africa.
