President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met on Tuesday 29/3/2022 with the Head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mr. Mohamed Al-Manfi, at Ittihadia Palace.
The meeting was attended by Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry, Head of the General Intelligence Service Major General Abbas Kamel and Libya’s permanent representative to the League of Arab States, Ambassador Abdel Muttalib Idris.
The Spokesperson for the Presidency stated that the President welcomed the visit of the head of the Libyan Presidential Council to Cairo, confirming Egypt’s support for efforts that would achieve Libya’s supreme interest, preserve its territorial integrity and activate the free will of the Libyan people.
This comes within the framework of Egypt’s unwavering support for the Libyan state institutions to undertake their responsibilities and role, leading to holding the presidential and parliamentary elections, ending the transitional phase, and allowing the Libyan people to determine their fate and choose their leaders and representatives.
The head of the Libyan Presidential Council praised Egypt’s vital role and its tireless and sincere efforts, under the leadership of the President, to restore security and stability in Libya by supporting comprehensive national reconciliation efforts among the Libyans, reunifying state institutions, as well as supporting the implementation of various UN and international outcomes regarding the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libya, in order to preserve Libya’s unity, security and sovereignty.
Mr. Al-Manfi also reviewed the overall current internal political scene in Libya. There was consensus to intensify consultation and coordination between the two sides during the coming period to follow up on developments of the political process and procedures pertinent to running the transitional phase.
This is while emphasizing the exit of mercenaries and foreign forces, in addition to holding the parliamentary and presidential elections concurrently to help restore stability in Libya and enable the Libyan people to fully control their capabilities and sovereignty.
