President Abbas meets with Finnish President in New York


NEW YORK: President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas met today with the President of Finland Alexander Stubb, on the sidelines of his participation in the meetings of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, in New York.

President Abbas affirmed the position of the State of Palestine, calling for an immediate cessation of aggression, the entry of humanitarian and medical aid into the Gaza Strip, the complete withdrawal of the Israeli occupation forces from the Gaza Strip, the cessation of aggression on the cities, villages and camps of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the release of Palestinian clearance funds.

The President pointed out the importance of the successive recognitions by the European Union countries of the State of Palestine, which give hope to the Palestinian people of the possibility of achieving their aspirations for freedom and independence.

He also called for recognizing the State of Palestine and supporting its obtaining full membership in the United N
ations, in preparation for starting a political path based on international legitimacy resolutions that end the Israeli occupation and embody the establishment of the Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

In turn, the Finnish President affirmed his country’s position in support of the two-state solution and that Finland will continue to support efforts to achieve stability, security and peace in the region.
