NEW YORK: President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas met on Thursday with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on the sidelines of his participation in the meetings of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
President Abbas discussed with Starmer bilateral relations between the two countries, ways to develop and strengthen them, and work to achieve peace and stability in the region and the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights.
The President stressed the importance of Britain’s role in mobilizing international efforts to reach a ceasefire, immediately bring aid into Gaza to stop the humanitarian catastrophe, withdraw the occupation forces from the entire Strip, stop the escalation in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and release Palestinian funds withheld by Israel.
President Abbas called on the British Prime Minister to support the international diplomatic movement to implement the two-state solution, which is being systematically destroyed by Israel, an
d to reflect his country’s support for this solution into recognizing the State of Palestine.
The President stressed the need to find international mechanisms to implement the UN General Assembly resolution based on the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice, in order to end the occupation, embody the establishment of the Palestinian state, hold an international peace conference, and support the State of Palestine’s endeavor to obtain full membership in the United Nations, all within a timetable set by the General Assembly resolution.
