NEW YORK: President Mahmoud Abbas met on Monday with President of the Republic of Chile, Gabriel Boric, on the sidelines of his participation in the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, in New York.

The President stressed the strength of the bilateral relations between Palestine and Chile, and discussed with his Chilean counterpart ways to further enhance them. They also addressed a range of issues of mutual interest.

President Abbas expressed gratitude for the supportive stance of Chile’s President, government and people toward the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. He thanked Chile for joining South Africa’s genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), noting that this reflects Chile’s commitment to international law and legitimacy.

The President reiterated the Palestinian position calling for an end to the aggression against the Palestinian people, the full withdrawal of the occupation forces from Gaza, the reconstruction of Gaza, and an end to the
attacks carried out by Israeli forces and colonists in the West Bank, including Jerusalem.

President Abbas further reiterated his call for launching a political process that ends the occupation, establishes the Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, and achieves security, stability and peace for all.

The President stressed the need to mobilize international efforts to compel Israel, the occupying power, to implement the advisory opinion of the ICJ, which mandated Israel to end its occupation, dismantle its colonies and achieve freedom for Palestinians and the establishment of their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, and to hold an international peace conference.

President Abbas affirmed that the State of Palestine will continue to seek full membership in the United Nations, and to obtain further recognitions of its statehood.
