RAMALLAH: President Mahmoud Abbas received a phone call this evening from the newly appointed Dutch Prime Minister, Dick Schoof.

During the conversation, President Abbas briefed Prime Minister Schoof on the dire situation in Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem, urging an immediate ceasefire, expedited humanitarian aid to Gaza, and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the region.

President Abbas emphasized the need for international support for Palestine’s efforts to end the Israeli aggression and mitigate the humanitarian crisis in the war-torn Gaza Strip.

He also called on the Netherlands and other nations to back Palestine’s bid for full United Nations membership and boost global recognition of the State of Palestine. This, he stated, would aid in advancing peace efforts in line with international law and the International Court of Justice’s rulings on occupation and settlement issues.

Meantime, President Abbas congratulated Prime Minister Schoof on his appointment and expressed a desire to str
engthen bilateral relations between Palestine and the Netherlands.

He praised Dutch assistance to Gaza and ongoing support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). Additionally, President Abbas extended a formal invitation to Prime Minister Schoof to visit Palestine.
