NEW YORK: President Mahmoud Abbas met today with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

During the meeting, President Abbas discussed the dire situation in Palestine, highlighting the ongoing Israeli genocide against the people of Gaza and the escalating violence in the West Bank, including Jerusalem.

He condemned the persistent atrocities committed by extremist Israeli settlers and the Israeli attacks on Islamic and Christian holy sites.

President Abbas also expressed profound appreciation for Egypt’s steadfast support for Palestinian rights, particularly the right to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He acknowledged Egypt’s continuous efforts in facilitating reconciliation and its rejection of the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank.

The President emphasized the crucial role of Egypt, under President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, in achieving a ceasefire to address th
e humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.

He stressed the importance of ongoing regional and international efforts to halt the aggression against the Palestinian people, withdraw Israeli forces from Gaza, and put an end to the assaults by the Israeli forces and extremist settlers in the West Bank, including Jerusalem.

The President also reiterated Palestine’s firm stance against the displacement of any Palestinian citizen from Gaza or the West Bank and affirmed that Gaza is an integral part of the State of Palestine.
