President Mahmoud Abbas and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak discussed in a phone call today the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank. During the phone conversation, President Mahmoud Abbas stressed that the massacres committed by the Israeli war machine cannot be tolerated, and that the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip must immediately stop. He stressed the need to spare civilians from the scourge of war, in light of the barbaric Israeli bombing of defenseless civilians in the Gaza Strip. President Abbas called for the necessity of opening permanent humanitarian corridors to bring in medical and food relief aid and to provide water and electricity as quickly as possible. The President said that targeting safe civilians in their homes and hospitals and demolishing buildings on top of their heads are brutal crimes that cannot be tolerated and must be stop immediately, stressing the necessity to end settler terrorism against the Palestinian people in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. President Abbas reiterated Palestine’s categorical rejection of the displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, or Jerusalem. He also stressed the necessity of implementing a political solution based on international legitimacy in order for the Palestinian people to gain their freedom, independence and sovereignty. He said this solution would guarantee security and stability for all in the region, affirming that there is no security or military solution for the Gaza Strip. He thanked the British Prime Minister for his efforts to pressure to ramp up the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza. Meantime, Sunak stressed the continuation of working with all international parties in order to increase aid and achieve a humanitarian truce. He expressed his deep sadness over the civilian casualties, stressing that he will remain in contact with President Abbas during the coming period, in order to consult and provide the possible assistance.
