Pope Tawadros II meets young people participating in MYA training program

Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of the Sea of Saint Mark received Saturday at the papal office in Cairo a group of young people who participate in the 2nd edition of a training program organized by the Mediterranean Youth Academy (MYA), which is affiliated to the Youth and Sports Ministry.

The five-day program is expected to facilitate dialogue between Europe, Asia, and Africa and build the capacity of 120 young leaders.

Welcoming the young delegation to Egypt, the pontiff introduced them to the ancient Egyptian civilization and the journey of the Holy Family in Egypt, the only country visited by Jesus and Virgin Mary.

He also listened to their questions and inquiries about the church community role in Egypt, and the Egyptian church contributions in support of women, child and environment-related issues.

The program is aimed at raising awareness about the challenges facing the Mediterranean countries, including unemployment, the climate crisis, migration, gender inequality, and engaging young people in facing those challenges.
