International Cooperation Minister Rania el Mashat emphasized that empowering women was and will always be a priority for the political leadership.
The minister highlighted the priority the political leadership attaches to women empowerment at all levels, saying that this contributes to promoting the implementation of development plans.
The minister’s remarks came while delivering a speech during the 2022 Global Gender Summit of the Multilateral Development Banks Working Group on Gender (MDB WGG).
The summit, which is held in Cairo under the theme of “Building Back Better: Advancing Gender Equality for a More Resilient Future”, is organized by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
Over the past seven years, the State has taken a range of steps to increase women’s participation in the various fields, said the minister.
Egypt has also launched its own National Strategy for the Empowerment of Women 2030 in order to enable women to be main partners in implementing the sustainable development strategy, she further said.
The minister also referred to the report issued by the World Bank Group in which it said that Egypt has achieved progress towards women’s empowerment.
Mashat, meanwhile, pointed out to the importance of women’s participation in the labor market.
According to international studies, Egypt’s GDP will increase by 34% if females receive equal opportunities with men in the workplace, said the minister.
The three day Summit focuses on three gender topics: the care economy, climate change and digitalization. The event will help pave the way towards the Climate Change Conference (COP27) to be hosted by the Egyptian Government later this year.
It is taking place from May 16-19, 2022 in Four Seasons First Residence Hotel (Giza, Egypt), in a hybrid format.
