Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli concluded his project inspection tour in Alexandria on Saturday by visiting Egypt (Misr) railway station square, one of the most prominent heritage sites in the governorate.
Madbouli followed up on the development work underway to upgrade the square, after a long time of being marred by unorganized activity of street vendors and traffic congestion.
PM Madbouli was accompanied by Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Shaarawy, Governor of Alexandria Mohamed El Sherrif and deputy head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority for the Northern Military Region Maj. Gen. Ahmed Al Ezazi
The project, which is being carried out in coordination with the Armed Forces’ National Service Products Organization (NASPO), involves establishing a full-service market, paving the entire square area, improving landscape and introducing new elements for investment purposes, such as billboards, the governor told the premier during the tour.
It also includes building four parking lots for passenger cars and buses, and renovating heritage buildings in the area, the governor added.
Meanwhile, the organization chairman noted that due to the project’s importance, its completion time had been revised to be 12 months instead of three years.
The Premier’s tour has also included a project improve a central fish market Al-Anfoushy neighborhood, which involves turning the market’s old building into an iconic restaurant and building a new urban marketplace for fish vendors.
