PM, US climate envoy discuss preparations for COP27 ‎

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli and US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry reviewed Monday mutual cooperation on preparing for the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP27) to the UNFCCC, which will take place in Sharm El-Sheikh in November.

Earlier in the day, Foreign Minister and COP27 President Designate Sameh Shoukry and the US official held talks in Cairo.

In a joint statement after their talks, the two sides stressed that both countries appreciate the gravity of the climate change and asserted the need to unify global efforts to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

They also welcomed the progress made in the Glasgow conference, including the adoption of the Glasgow Climate Charter and the finalization of the rules for implementing the Paris Agreement.

They also welcomed the adoption of the Climate Finance Delivery Plan last week, which provides clarity on when and how developed countries will meet the $100-billion annual climate finance goal through to 2025.

The Plan helps keep momentum going, and facilitates important conversations ensuring that we collectively deliver on the goals of the Paris Agreement.
