Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli stressed the great strategic importance of Arish Port.
The port enjoys a unique location on the Mediterranean Sea and forms part of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), said Madbouli while inspecting, along with his accompanying delegation, the development works at Arish Port.
The upgrade works at Arish port came as part of directives issued by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to overhaul all ports across the country in an integrated manner to increase their competitiveness at the domestic and global levels.
For his part, North Sinai Governor Mohamed Abdel Fadeel Shousha said that ongoing development works at Arish Port came as part of directives issued by the political leadership.
The State is keen on reopening the port after its renovation in order to enhance the economic development in Egypt, especially in North Sinai, added the governor.
Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) Walid Gamal el Din, for his part, said that the development of Arish Port involves implementing a 500m-long berth and a wave barrier with a length of 1,250 meters.
The completion rate of the berth development project has so far reached 80 percent, he said, noting that efforts are under way to implement dredging operations.
The development works of Arish Port are scheduled to be finalized in the first quarter of 2024, he said.
