PM: Timeline to Be Set for Implementing Export Development Recommendations

Cairo: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli announced that a timeline will be established for the implementation of recommendations put forth by the advisory committee for export development, marking a step forward in supporting Egyptian exports. During a meeting that included key figures such as Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat and Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk, the prime minister highlighted the government’s focus on enhancing the export sector, particularly through improving the customs system and business environment.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the advisory committee’s recommendations include offering competitive interest rates linked to inflation, alleviating tax and customs burdens on exporters, speeding up the disbursement of export support program dues, and standardizing export data across government platforms. Additionally, the committee suggested boosting financing and credit for export-oriented industries and supporting local sectors like textiles, leather goods, food industries, and electrical appliances to increase exports and attract foreign investments.

Mashat mentioned that efforts are underway to reduce inflation and interest rates in collaboration with the Central Bank, with a focus on directing external funding to support the private sector. Kouchouk expressed approval of the committee’s proposals, noting the government’s initiatives to expand the tax base and introduce a new tax reform package to enhance the export support program.

Madbouli concluded the meeting by announcing that starting next week, discussions will commence with representatives from various export sectors to address their specific needs, aiming to implement urgent proposals in tandem with long-term economic reforms.
