PM stresses urgent ICJ decision to stop Israel’s aggression on Gaza

RAMALLAH: Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh stressed the necessity of issuing an urgent decision from the International Court of Justice to stop the ongoing aggression for the 101st day in a row against the Gaza Strip, which is exposed to the hellish catastrophies such as ethnic cleansing, genocide, starvation, abuse, torture, and daily killing that has so far claimed many victims, whereas mearly 100,000 people are killed, wounded, and missing.

This came during the weekly Cabinet session held in the city of Ramallah, the Prime Minister expressed his hope that the court’s decision will be professional and legal, based on international law and international humanitarian law, and that the initial decision will be about stopping the aggression before the judges are replaced by the end of this month.

He pointed out that 101 days have passed since the Gaza Strip was in darkness without electricity, cutting off water, preventing medicine and communications, and slow and rapid death that claimed the lives of childre
n, women and the elderly, in addition to those who were displaced from their destroyed homes, estimated at about 1.7 million people.

The Premiere demanded that the aggression against Palestinian people must be stopped, sufficient quantities of food and humanitarian aid be brought in, and the power station and water network be restarted.

Regarding Israel’s deduction of funds from Palestinian clearing fund, he said that what is required is “to transfer our funds, from which Israel is still deducting what we spend on the Gaza Strip, and to the families of slain Palestinians and prisoners, and thus we have refused to receive these deficient funds.”

Shtayyeh added that the United States, Europe, and Israel’s sponsors are required to stop the crimes of Israel as it does not listen to anyone, and that they must move from political pampering to sanctions against this criminal state.

“We will demand that Israel in international courts bear the full costs of everything it destroyed in the Gaza Strip, and bear full
responsibility for the lives of our people it has committed crimes against,” he added.

He expressed his hope that the international press would be allowed to reach the Gaza Strip, so that the crimes committed there would be documented as Israel prevents the international press from accessing.

The PM called on the Red Cross to exert all possible pressure to reach the detainees held by Israel in unknown places, some of whom have died, and to publicly declare their conditions, as well as to follow up on the abuse of detainees in all the occupation prisons, who number 9,000 detainees, in conditions that can be said to be mild. Inhuman.

He paid tribute to Palestinian people everywhere, in cities, villages, camps, and in our eternal capital, Jerusalem, for their steadfastness in the face of the machine of killing, sabotage, field executions, barbaric desecration, bulldozing of the infrastructure in the camps, terrorism of the colonists, seizure of lands, destruction of property by the army and colonists, and sto
rming of institutions of education, most recently at An-Najah University in Nablus.

In its weekly session, the Cabinet is scheduled to follow up on the aggression against our people in Gaza and the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and the implementation of the reform plan that we presented to the international community, which was welcomed.

“Although we realize that these are excuses for the inability to achieve a political path that ends the occupation and stops the aggression, despite that, we say reform is in the interest of our people and we are the ones who initiated it,” the PM stressed.

He stressed that Israel, its policies and procedures are aimed at destroying the Palestinian Authority (PA) as it sees it as a national enemy.

“The strength and legitimacy of the PA are from its people and from our belief in our right to end the occupation and embody our state on earth with Jerusalem as its capital,” Shtayyed said.
