RAMALLAH: Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh deplored the approval of a bill prohibiting the entry of all PLO members into the United States by the US House of Representatives.
The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) is the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, stressed the prime minister.
Shatyyeh stressed that this bill is aimed at silencing the Palestinian voice to prevent the truth from reaching the American people in light of the growing sympathy with Palestine, calling on US President Joe Biden to veto the bill.
The prime minister expressed dismay over such a bill, which he stressed, contradicts the recent announcement of US Secretary of State Tony Blinken on possible U.S. and international recognition of a Palestinian state after the end of the Israeli aggression on Gaza.
He demanded the US administration clarify its position on this bill and the US President to use his veto against it.
“These policies would prejudice any chances of achieving a two-state solution and enabling
our Palestinian people to achieve their legitimate rights, particularly the right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state on the pre-1967 borders, with Jerusalem as its capital,” he said.
‘If the United States is serious in its call for the recognition of the State of Palestine, it should allow that recognition to pass in the Security Council,’ stressed the prime minister.
This needs to be followed by the establishment of a timetable for Israel’s withdrawal from the occupied Palestinian Territory and the ending of its occupation, in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy, stressed the prime minister.
