PM Reviews Proposals for Commissioning a Specialised Entity to Manage Khedive Cairo


Cairo: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly convened a meeting to deliberate on various proposals and suggestions aimed at formulating a comprehensive vision for commissioning a specialised entity to manage and operate Khedive Cairo, following its revival. The meeting was attended by several key officials, including Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development, Engineer Sherif El Sherbini, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, Dr. Ibrahim Sabir, Governor of Cairo, and other prominent figures within the Urban Development Fund and the Antiquities Sector.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the Prime Minister emphasized the significance of revitalising the Khedive Cairo area, especially after the relocation of ministries to the New Administrative Capital. He referenced successful international examples where independent entities manage historical regions, suggesting a similar approach for Khedive Cairo to ensure its optimal utilisation and preservation.

elevant authorities to form a working group led by the head of the Council of Ministers’ advisers to explore the proposal and develop mechanisms for its implementation to achieve the desired objectives.

Engineer Sherif El Sherbini outlined the roadmap for crafting the strategic vision for Khedive Cairo, including establishing the institutional framework to manage the area’s assets. He underscored the importance of attracting investment by setting up an administrative entity to enhance the investment climate in the area.

The Minister of Housing shared international experiences and models applied in managing central areas, elaborating on legislative frameworks, organisational structures, and investment strategies proposed for Khedive Cairo. Additionally, a financial and investment analysis of the potential uses for the area was presented.

El Sherbini further detailed a strategic tourism plan for historical Cairo, alongside marketing strategies, market studies, and analyses of the strategic impacts on social,
traffic, and utility aspects.

Dr. Abdel Khalek Ibrahim showcased the status of ongoing projects in Khedive Cairo aimed at reviving its architectural and urban identity, including facade development and commercial shop enhancements in several key locations.

Dr. Ibrahim Sabir reported on the completed phases of the Khedive Cairo revival project and outlined the proposed works for the upcoming phases, aligning with the guidelines of the National Authority for Urban Coordination.

Engineer Khaled Seddik reviewed the progress of heritage revival projects in Cairo, including construction on vacant lands and efforts to rejuvenate old squares. He presented images of the work completed, highlighting projects such as the Craft Industries Complex and the revival of the Hussein and Sayyida 2 areas.

The Prime Minister concluded the meeting by tasking the working group to complete their assignments within a month to begin implementation.
