PM Reviews Progress on Egypt-Saudi Electricity Interconnection Project.

Badr City: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli confirmed Thursday ongoing political leadership oversight on the Egypt-Saudi electricity interconnection project. During his inspection of the 500kV direct current interconnection station in Badr City, Madbouli emphasized the government’s commitment to initiating operations to ensure grid stability and meet the anticipated high electricity demand.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Madbouli assessed the project’s current status, progress rates, and adherence to timelines. He called for intensified efforts to address technical challenges and ensure the timely delivery of essential components. The Egypt-Saudi interconnection project, with a capacity of 3,000 MW, includes three high-voltage stations in the Saudi regions of East Medina and Tabuk, and in Egypt’s Badr City.

The project encompasses 1,350 kilometers of overhead lines and submarine cables, executed by a consortium of three global companies. Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esm
at highlighted the project’s significance in optimizing generation capacities between Egypt and Saudi Arabia. The project leverages differences in peak demand times, reduces fuel consumption, and aims for economic grid operations.

The minister reaffirmed President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives to adopt sustainable solutions for maintaining grid stability and improving energy quality through renewable resources and efficient generation methods.
