The 25th edition of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which saw Egypt’s participation as a guest of honor, included some sessions on Africa and Egypt’s role in consolidating joint efforts to develop economic cooperation frameworks, Minister of Trade and Industry Nivine Gamea said.
Gamea was speaking during a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli to review a report on the results of the forum and the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) 12th Ministerial Conference (MC12) held at the WTO’s headquarters in Geneva on June 12-17.
The minister initiated by highlighting the meetings held on the margins of the forum, which took place on June 15-18, with international officials and representatives of several Russian companies to investment and economic cooperation aspects.
She noted that an Egyptian pavilion had been set up at the event to showcase Egypt’s cultural and civilizational identity, the country’s economic assets, and the efforts exerted by various state bodies to create an investment friendly environment and lure further investments in many promising sectors.
During sessions on Africa at St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the conferees underscored the pivotal role of Egypt as the gateway to the continent, not to mention the country’s myriad comparative advantages that make it an attractive spot for investors, the trade minister said.
Speaking about the high turnout at the Egyptian pavilion during the event, Gamea said visitors commended the successful organization of the pavilion which highlighted the progress Egypt has been witnessing in various sectors.
Emphasizing the importance of the free trade agreement being negotiated between Egypt and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), the minister said the deal would serve as a major driver of trade exchange and joint investments between member states.
As for the WTO 12th Ministerial Conference (MC12), held at the WTO’s headquarters in Geneva on 12-17 June, Gamea said a document was issued during the closing session, which included a wide array of decisions and declarations on fisheries support, enabling developing nations to increase their local vaccine production and deal with food security crises, and promoting electronic transactions.
