Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli paid a tour to the Old Cairo district Sunday to inspect the newly-launched Fustat Gardens project, the renovation process of Amr ibn Al A’as Mosque and surrounding areas in Cairo.
The prime minister highlighted the importance of Fustat Gardens project as it aimed at creating a public garden in the center of Old Cairo’s archaeological and historical sites and monuments, thus offering tourists a unique tourist experience.
During the tour, Madbouli directed speeding up planation of the area.
He also discussed with officials responsible for carrying out the project infrastructure work at the site of the venture.
The gigantic project would work to revive the first Islamic capital in Africa by preserving the Islamic architecture there and turning Fustat into an open museum to visitors from all over the world.
Madbouli also undertook an inspection tour of the Amr Ibn Al-Aas Mosque Square development site.
Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal accompanied the prime minister during the tour.
Covering an area of 500 feddans in the heart of Historic Cairo, the Fustat Gardens national project is considered the largest of its kind in the Middle East.
It is a densely forested park with the least amount of buildings and an appropriate amount of foot path. The area of the park amounted to 250 acres. It was established in 1989 after it was a public dump.
Al Fustat Park extends from Salah Salem Road in the north to the Ring Road in the south and from Amr Ibn Al-Aas Mosque in the west to the Cavalry Railway in the east.
