The board of trustees of the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Abuse under Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli held its first meeting on Wednesday after its new formation.

The meeting was attended by Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa, Justice Minister Amr Marwan, Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Youth and Sports Minister Ashraf Sobhy, Social Solidarity Minister Niven el Kabbag, Local Development Minister Hisham Amna, Minister of Higher Education Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Education Minister Reda Hegazy, Culture Minister Niven el Kilany and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Media Regulation Karam Gabr.

At the beginning of the meeting, Kabbag, who is also the board chairman of the fund, reviewed a number of work activities of the fund in 2023, adding that a draft national plan was prepared to decrease demand on drugs (2024-2028).

An integrated database was launched for the beneficiaries of the drug treatment services, she said.

She pointed out to awareness and preventive programs on the harm
of drugs in cooperation with a number of bodies.

She also highlighted the efforts of the fund within the framework of implementing presidential initiative ‘Decent Life’, adding that work is being done on implementing ‘Village Without Addiction’ initiative in the targeted villages.
