PM follows up progress of housing ministry’s projects

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli chaired a meeting on Sunday to follow up the execution of cooperation protocols between the ministry of housing and the Armed Forces Engineering Authority (AFEA) to carry out a number of projects in various sectors.

Upon their completion and entry into service, the projects are expected to improve efficiency of public services, Madbouli said.

Meanwhile, Assistant to AFEA President Ahmed Shiha briefed the premier on the progress made in the projects undertaken by the authority for the housing ministry, including those funded by the ministry or any of its affiliates.

Prominent among completed projects are a 1000-housing unit project in South Sinai, and another housing project to build 2,136-housing units in North Sinai as part of the 2nd phase of the ministry’s social housing project, Shiha said.

They also include providing water and sanitation, as well as electrical supply networks, and landscaping for as many as 4,000 housing units in South Sinai, and a vehicle bridge over Mohamed Fawzy intersection along Cairo Ring Road.

They also include a project to boost the capacity of a seawater desalination plant in El Dabaa town, about 320 kilometers west of Cairo, to 4,000 cubic meters per day, Shiha added.

Other projects are still under construction, including a 55-km road development project between Alexandria and Matrouh governorates, and a project to establish a compact water treatment plant with a production capacity 3,000 cubic meters per day, he pointed out.

Madbouli instructed the bodies concerned to review the financial status of these projects and provide necessary funds for them to speed up their completion and entry into service.
