Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli said dlrs 1 billion is needed for overcoming the power cut crisis in Egypt this summer.
He said the government has drawn up a plan for confronting the unprecedented rising temperature this summer.
He asserted the government is working in line with a plan for curbing the power cuts crisis by end of 2024.
He made the remarks on Tuesday 25/6/2024 at a press conference held at the cabinet HQ in the New Administrative Capital in the presence of Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker and Petroleum Minister Tarek Mulla.
He attributed the power outage in Egypt on Monday to lack of natural gas needed for operating electric power stations, therefore the government was obliged to increase power cut duration.
He noted that the government is shedding loads over the unprecedented heat wave gripping Egypt.
He added that power consumption recorded unprecedented levels over the past two days.
He said the government knows the suffering of people under the power crisis, especially as this co
incides with the Thanawya Amma exams.
