Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli directed the government to step up efforts to finalize plans for the development of the Upper Egyptian city of Esna.
Madobuli’s directives came during a cabinet meeting that he held on Tuesday 8/2/2022 to follow up ongoing efforts for revitalizing this historical city, in the presence of Antiquities and Tourism Minister Khaled el Anani, Local Development Minister Mahmoud Shaarawi and other officials.
The antiquities minister said that several proposals were developed in cooperation with the Local Development Ministry, Luxor governorate and the bodies concerned to upgrade Esna and put it on the tourism map.
Anani added that his ministry works on reviving cultural tourism in the city and raising tourism and archaeological awareness, in addition to providing new job opportunities for locals.
On his part, Shaarawi said the development of Esna city comes in continuation of the mega projects executed by the State in Luxor governorate to restore its position as a global tourist destination.
The local development minister noted that the State aims to renovate Esna, in a way that preserves its diversified cultural heritage and maximizes its economic benefits.
