PM chairs supreme committee of National Council for Climate Change

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli said on Monday Egypt is keen to support and adopt the climate change file, which he noted is closely linked to the resources of states and the future of generations.

 

In this regard, Madbouli emphasized the importance of effective international coordination and integration of roles to achieve global goals of reducing the negative impacts of climate change.

 

The premier made the remarks during the third meeting of the Supreme Committee of the National Council for Climate Change, which he chaired in the presence of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Aati, Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala el Saeed, Minister of International Cooperation Rania el Mashat, and Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad, along with officials from the ministries and authorities concerned.

 

During the meeting, the environment minister reviewed the most important topics on the agenda at the UN COP26 climate conference in Glasgow, which is scheduled to kick off in late October.

 

The meeting also touched on the draft national climate change strategy, which is integrated with Egypt’s sustainable development strategy “Egypt Vision 2030”, especially with regard to objectives and policies related to achieving sustainable economic growth, infrastructure for climate financing, maximizing energy efficiency, expanding the use of renewable and alternative sources of energy, and enhancing Egypt’s relevant leadership at the international level.

 

Meanwhile, the environment minister reviewed the outlines of Egypt’s pavilion at the UN COP26.
