Cairo: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli attended a ceremony at the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) to mark the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) receiving Maturity Level 3 (ML-3) certification from the World Health Organization (WHO) for both medicines and vaccines regulation. This recognition makes Egypt the first country in Africa to achieve this status in both sectors, placing its regulatory system among the most advanced globally.
According to State Information Service Egypt, WHO representatives officially handed over the certificate to EDA Chairman Ali El-Ghamrawy, who stated that this event affirms Egypt’s commitment to pharmaceutical quality and safety. During the ceremony, Madbouli praised the achievement, noting that Egypt’s domestic pharmaceutical production now covers 91.3% of its needs, highlighting plans to boost the country’s drug exports from $1 billion to $3 billion by 2030.
EDA confirmed it is expanding cooperation with African, Arab, Latin American, Asian, and European countries to open new markets for Egyptian pharmaceutical products.
