Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Zeina Touqan, met on Monday with Acting Director-General of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), Waleed Shamlan Al-Bahar, and the accompanying delegation visiting the Kingdom.

The meeting covered bolstering bilateral development relations between the Jordanian government and KFAED.

During the meeting, Touqan expressed the Jordanian government’s thanks to Kuwait for its continuous support based on the strong and distinguished bilateral relations, stressing that the KFAED is one of Jordan’s development partners, whether through the management of grants provided by the Kuwaiti government or through soft loans provided by KFAED, as the volume of development cooperation with the KFAED during the 1962-2024 period reached about $2.1 billion, including about $1.33 billion in grants to finance priority development projects and support Syrian refugees and about $778 million in the form of loans on favorable terms.

For his part, KFAED Director Gene
ral voiced the Kuwaiti government’s interest in supporting development efforts in Jordan, stressing that it will continue to provide possible forms of support to enable the government to implement priority economic and development plans and programs, therefore, enabling the government to overcome economic and financial challenges and provide basic services to citizens.

According to a ministry statement, the meeting also discussed the progress of projects under implementation and funded by the KFAED, and the start of discussions on the third phase of the 2018 Mecca Summit pledges, which resulted in the initialling of two financing agreements for the public education infrastructure development project worth KD10 million and the rehabilitation of roads and bridges worth KD10 million within the framework of the economic modernization vision.
