Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El Said discussed during a meeting Sunday with Executive Vice President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans ways of boosting bilateral cooperation.
Timmermans is leading the European Commission’s work on the European Green Deal and its first European Climate Law.
The minister voiced appreciation of the European Commission’s effort in support of ongoing preparations for the UN Climate Change Conference 2022 (UNFCCC) COP27, set for Sharm el-Sheikh in Nov.
ElSaid highlighted Egypt’s keenness on cooperating with the European Commission and reviewed a number of files covering the investment plan, sustainable development strategies “Egypt Vision 2030”, along with implementing a structural reform program and sustainable development ventures, with a view to increasing number of green ventures placed on the agenda of the national investment plan.
She also stressed her ministry’s role in upgrading the Growth Domestic Product (GDP), together with upping economic competitiveness and production.
The minister further accentuated the importance of Decent Life Initiative (Haya Karima) ‘s role in ameliorating citizens’ living conditions.
For his part, the European Commission official said the European Union is looking forward to promoting cooperation with Egypt in the energy sphere.
He cited promising aspects of future cooperation with Egypt in the energy field, saying that Egypt would possibly turn into an international renewable energy hub.
