Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El Saeed asserted that the state has spent dlrs 400 billion (equals more than six trillion pounds) to improve the citizens’ quality of life.
Addressing a debate session on the fringe of launching “The National Project for Developing the Egyptian Family” event in the presence of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, El Saeed said: “When the Egyptian state launched its vision for 2030 which comprised the national copy of the UN development objectives along with the presidential directives and the government’s plan of action for the economic and social development, the key objective was to build the Egyptian character and improve the people’s quality of life”.
Over the past seven years, the state has spent dlrs 400 billion she said, noting that the National project of “Decent Life” which worth more than dlrs 50 billion over a period of three years is the biggest development project in the world.
Addressing a debate session held on the fringe of the National Project for Developing the Egyptian Family event, Planning Minister Hala El Saeed said the national projects carried out by the government have a fundamental impact on several human development indicators, citing the decrease in the deaths of infants who are less than five years, the rise in average life expectancy at birth as well as a decrease in the rates of high school dropouts.
However, there are other challenges which still face Egypt’s development plans in view of the continued population growth including the high density classes at schools along with the high birth rates, she said.
The minister made it clear that the population increased 25 million over the past ten years with an annual rate of 2.5 million newborns.
