The Palestinian International Cooperation Agency (PICA) launched today its corneal transplantation program at the International Clinic in the Guinean capital, Conakry, which is the first of its kind in the African country.
PICA said a first surgery of this kind has been successfully performed on a 9-year-old child by its specialized medical teams, while more surgeries are under way for a number of other patients in Guinea.
Ambassador Imad Al-Zuhairi, the Director General of PICA, said this achievement opens the way for future programs in this country which supports Palestine, in addition to other neighboring countries.
He said the one-week program in Guinea is being organized in cooperation and partnership with the Palestinian and Guinean Ministries of Health, the Guinean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of The State of Palestine in the Republic of Guinea, and the International Clinic in Conakry.
