Petroleum Ministry seeks to turn Hamra petroleum port to strategic hub for handling petroleum products

Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Tarek el Molla said on Thursday 4/8/2022 the expansion of Hamra petroleum port, which lies around 120 kilometers west of Alexandria, aims at turning it into a strategic center on the Mediterranean for handling crude oil and petroleum products.

Molla, in remarks while laying the foundation stone of the port expansions, said his ministry seeks to make the best use of the infrastructure of the petroleum sector so that it can play a vital role in the national project to turn Egypt into a regional hub for energy trade.

The port is run by the Western Desert Operating Petroleum Co (WEPCO).

Expansion plans of the port include the establishment of four new warehouses with a storage capacity of 630,000 barrels each to facilitate handling of crude oil and petroleum products.
