Washington: Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi took part in a roundtable discussion organized by the American Chamber of Commerce on the sidelines of the 10th Powering Africa Summit, held in Washington on March 6-7, 2025. The participation reaffirms their commitment to expanding cooperation with international partners and enhancing investment opportunities in Egypt’s energy sector, the Petroleum Ministry said in a statement.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Badawi emphasized collaboration between Egypt and US companies in the oil and gas sector, acknowledging their vital role in supporting exploration and production efforts. He stressed the importance of strengthening partnerships with African countries in light of global challenges to ensure sustainable energy supplies, identifying Egypt as a key gateway for energy market integration across the continent.
The minister highlighted the policies adopted by the Petroleum Ministry to attract investments in the energy sector. H
e mentioned the introduction of an investment promotion policy paper designed to create a more attractive business environment through competitive incentives, streamlined investment procedures, enhanced private sector partnerships, and improved contractual frameworks to strengthen the economic viability of companies operating in Egypt.
Badawi also discussed the positive outcomes of Egypt’s production incentive packages, which have accelerated exploration and development activities, maximized the utilization of natural resources, and ensured stable cash flows for partners, thereby encouraging investments in the energy sector. He expressed his eagerness for continued collaboration with companies operating in Egypt, emphasizing that their success directly contributes to the growth of the Ministry of Petroleum and the country’s energy sector, ultimately boosting Egypt’s economy.
The roundtable discussion included participation from major US and international energy companies, such as Apache, Bechtel, BP, ExxonM
obil, and IPR Energy, alongside financial and investment institutions. Participants widely praised the ministry’s efforts in exploration and field development, noting the sector’s intensified activities in recent months, which have led to the implementation of new drilling and development plans and multiple discoveries in the Mediterranean region within BP and ExxonMobil concession areas.
Attendees also commended the latest edition of the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES 2025), which featured the signing of cooperation agreements aimed at bolstering regional integration in the energy sector.
