Petroleum min. probes LNG, green hydrogen cooperation with Germany

Egypt is expected to announce its national strategy for green hydrogen production soon, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla said on Sunday.

Molla was speaking during a meeting with a German delegation led by Germany’s Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Stefan Wenzel, who is on a current visit to Egypt.

There are abundant cooperation opportunities in joint projects aiming at investing in Egypt’s potential of natural resources, including natural gas and green sources of energy, such as green hydrogen, Molla told the delegation, which included representatives of some of Germany’s top green energy, infrastructure, and tech companies.

The meeting addressed the steps needed to activate mutual cooperation liquefied natural gas (LNG), hydrogen, and green energy projects, in light of a memorandum of understanding signed between both countries in November 2022.

Wenzel said the visit is intended to embark on the steps necessary to identify project implementation’s priorities as well as the industries of interest to the German companies.

Meanwhile, the companies’ representatives gave an overview of cooperation opportunities in LNG, hydrogen, and green ammonia projects.
