Parl’t speaker participates in 144th IPU Assembly meetings in Indonesia

Speaker of the House of Representatives Hanafi Gebali, accompanying a high-level parliamentary delegation, headed on Friday to Indonesia’s Bali city to take part in the meetings of the 144th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), slated for Sunday, March 20.

Gebali will deliver a speech about the assembly’s theme, titled “Getting to Zero: Mobilizing Parliament to Act on Climate Change.”

The Egyptian delegation will also participate in the meetings of the IPU’s permanent committees, as well as the meetings of the IPU High-Level Advisory Group on Countering Terrorism and Violent Extremism and the IPU Committee on Middle East Questions.

Also, the IPU Forum of Women Parliamentarians and Forum of Young Parliamentarians will be held as part of the assembly’s activities.

The IPU will launch two new tools for parliamentarians during the Assembly: a handbook on Strengthening health security preparedness, in partnership with the World Health Organization, and the third Global Parliamentary Report on Public engagement in the work of parliament, in partnership with the UN Development Program.
