The Senate’s Jordanian-Irish Friendship Committee on Wednesday discussed with Irish Ambassador Marianne Bolger means of boosting ties. Head of the committee Senator Mustafa Hammarna described the Jordanian-Irish relations as “strong, solid and distinguished in various fields and levels,” stressing the importance of strengthening ties and expanding cooperation, especially in the political, technological, economic, health and educational fields. He pointed out that Jordan and Ireland see eye-to-eye on regional and international issues, lauding Ireland’s position toward the Palestinian cause and the Hashemite Custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. For her part, Bolger voiced pride in the “distinguished and robust” relations and Jordan’s contribution to maintaining peace and stability in the region, noting that Ireland considers Jordan an economic partner due to the increasing trade exchange between the two countries and the existing cooperation in the information and communication technology, health, food, and education sector. She pointed out that her country is committed to supporting the rights of the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
