Palestinian poet Zakaria Mohammad dead at 73

Palestinian literary icon and poet Zakaria Mohammad has passed away on Wednesday. He was 73. Mahmoud, born in 1951 in the village of al-Zawiya in the occupied West Bank, left behind literary works that impacted modern Arabic poetry and helped preserve the Palestinian heritage and culture. He moved to Ramallah in 1994 after having worked as a writer and journalist with several Arab magazines in many Arab countries like Jordan and Lebanon. His works, which were translated to several languages, include ‘Al-Ayan Al-Mua’tima’ (The Dark Eye) and ‘Assa Al-Raee’ (The Sheperd’s Staff).
